Peter Loewer--Printmaker In 1959, upon graduating from the Albright Art School (AAS) of the University of Buffalo, I was a recepient of a Max Beckmann Fellowship for the study of graphic arts at the Brooklyn Museum Art School. My degree from the AAS included a major in graphic arts and a minor in Art History. Unfortunately, while in active study I was drafted into the US Army where I eventually became a cryptographer assigned to the Underground Pentagon. Upon returning from active service my wife (Jean Jenkins Loewer) and I set up an art studio in Manhattan that dealt with scientific and botanical illustration, mostly for scientific and medical text books published by The Macmillan Company. In 1969 we moved to upstate New York which like the great Steinberg cartoon of the view of the world from Manhattan Island, encompasses area begining in Westchester and extending north to the Arctic Circle. Now after years spent as a writer and illustrator of books involved with gardening, horticulture, and natural history (www.thewildgardener.com) I have returned to my beginnings to once again pursue a career in working with the graphic arts. | | |
